If you want to reinstall Windows Media Player, try the following:
- 'Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the specified protocol is not supported. If you typed a URL in the Open URL dialog box, try using a different transport protocol (for example, 'http:' or 'rtsp:').' Can Windows Media Player be uninstalled and reinstalled? I use Windows 7. It just started this problem today.
- Get the latest Media Player downloads from the Official Microsoft Download Center.
Click the Start button, type features, and select Turn Windows features on or off.
Scroll down and expand Media Features, clear the Windows Media Player check box, and click OK.
Restart your device. Windows Media Player should be uninstalled.
